Empowering people with age related dependencies to live independently for longer by delivering a virtual butler with seamless support for tasks in and outside the home. The virtual butler ALFRED will have a very high end-user acceptance by using a fully voice controlled and non-technical environment. Fostering active participation in society for the ageing population by suggesting and managing events and social contacts. Improved care process through direct access to vital signs for carers and other medical staff as well as alerting in case of emergencies. The data is collected by unobtrusive wearable sensors monitoring the vital signs of older people. Prevailing age-related physical and cognitive impairments with the help of personalized, serious games.
ALFRED is a project still in execution with duration of 36 months. It has a very important technological basement including mobile technology. The most relevant weak is related to the quickly evolution of the technologies and the incompatibility between mobile platforms. In other hand, these issues represent only a part of the ALFRED solution. ALFRED framework has being developed using open technologies guarantying the evolution and extensibility of it, along the time. Success factors: Android is the most extended smartphone platform in the market and is used by a big number of manufacturers ALFRED platform could be evolved and extended is not depending of the smartphone platforms ALFRED supports multilingual interface through the voice ALFRED includes a specialized marketplace for older people apps in order to easy the search and identification of the most recommended apps for their needs Weak factors: Obsolescence of smartphone and devices, technology is constantly and quickly changing. While every aspect of the ALFRED System may be solved on its own or is at least envisioned already the ALFRED System is the first holistic approach to bring all these technologies and concepts together. This is not less, than the combination of a range of major important disciplines in the ICT: Internet of Things and Wearables, Big Data, Social Networking, Serious Games and Human Computer Interaction. This cross-disciplinary approach shows the real impact, as the sum is more than the mere parts.
